Millet Porridge is a nutritious breakfast cereal that rivals oatmeal. Your kids will love it topped with fresh fruit and Omega Seed Sprinkles.
My daughter loves porridge just like her mommy. Is there anything that compares to a bowl of creamy warm porridge in the morning. While oatmeal is usually our preferred grain it’s always good to mix things up.
How do you cook millet for breakfast?
If your local health food shop does not stock ground millet you can order Raw Organic Millet Sprout Powder through Amazon or simply grind millet seeds yourself in a small food processor or coffee grinder.
Add the ground millet and nut milk to a small pot on the stovetop and heat until warmed through and thickened. Alternatively you may add all the ingredients to a microwave safe bowl and microwave on high for a couple minutes.
Millet Porridge taste and texture
Millet porridge has a thick texture, a lot thicker than oatmeal. You will find that it thickens even further in your bowl and sort of solidifies if you don’t devour it fast enough. I like that but it may take some getting used to. It tastes very similar to oatmeal and is extremely filling!
Is Millet Porridge good for babies?
One day my little one asked “Mommy is your porridge different to mine, can I try yours?” I gave her a spoonful and another and another until finally we just had to swap bowls. I was thrilled that she liked it. Millet is an excellent grain for babies too and can be introduced from about 8 months. As with all other foods, you should always consult your pediatrician when introducing solids as generalities may not apply to your baby.
Millet Porridge Health Benefits
Millet is usually associated as the main ingredient in bird seed but why should birds have all the fun? Millet is naturally gluten free, full of fibre and high in protein. Read more about the benefits of millet here.
