It’s Carnival around the world! If you have young children then you’ve probably seen the Disney movie The Princess and The Frog. My daughter LOVES that movie. Truth be told she loves all Disney movies but The Princess and the Frog is special. We watch it every year around Carnival time.

This year I wanted to add something extra to our Carnival tradition. A delicious, healthy treat to sip on as we cuddle on the couch and nibble  popcorn. Enter The Princess and the Frog smoothie.

The year The Princess and the Frog movie came out we threw my daughter’s birthday party in that theme. I made frog cupcakes and a Princess chocolate cake.

I sure wish I had thought of this Princess and the Frog Smoothie then. It would have fit in perfectly.

Kids tend to love smoothies but really who doesn’t? Smoothies are easy, quick, healthy and need I say – delicious. I tend to make smoothie packs ahead of time. Simply package out solid smoothie ingredients in Ziploc bags and freeze. Add liquid ingredients when ready for the perfect smoothie.

Princess and the Frog Smoothie Ingredients

As we enjoyed this smoothie I had my daughter guess the ingredients. She was spot on for the pink layer but never guessed that there were avocados in the green layer.

This smoothie is full of fruits, vegetables, healthy fats, fibre, protein and probiotics you don’t often get all that goodness in one meal. It’s so delicious I’m pretty sure even the pickiest eater would enjoy it.

♫ Carnaval Carnaval te quiero ♫

I have come to know Carnival by many names – Carnaval (Brazil) Farsang (Hungary) Carnestoltes (Valencia Region, Spain) Mardi Gras (US) Whichever name it goes by in your country there’s one thing for sure, it’s festive and colorful and a fun time of year.

If you ever visit my homeland of Trinidad and Tobago try to make it for Carnival. We like to think of it as the greatest show on earth! Back when I worked on ships we toured South America so I have had the pleasure of witnessing the world-famous Brazil Carnaval. My South American readers will hate me for this but I have to say that I prefer Carnival in TnT.

Yes I am biased.

Last weekend we celebrated Carnestoltes aka Carnival here in our town. The festivities started at 7pm. All the masqueraders gathered at the park and we made our way through the streets of the town accompanied by a few local bands. Fun was had by all.

Do you celebrate Carnival? I would love to hear all about it.
