Sugar - the immune system's worst enemy

Before I dive into the 5 immune boosting foods I'd like to talk a little about sugar and its effect on the immune system.

Sugar can suppress your immune system and impair your defenses against infectious disease. Researchers in the 1970's discovered that sugar and Vitamin C are similar in their chemical structure. Since white blood cells require Vitamin C to destroy bacteria and viruses you can imagine that the more sugar in your system the more difficult it becomes for white blood cells to do their work. Sugar and Vitamin C basically compete for space in those cells.

If you can do ONE thing to improve your immune health it should be to reduce sugar consumption.
